FAQ’S ABOUT ADDICTION therapy
-
We treat everything—from alcohol and drugs to food addictions, relationship codependency, sex addiction, internet or technology addiction, and more. All addictions share features in common, and our therapists have a wide range of experience treating addictive behavior patterns as well as any underlying trauma or mental health disorders.

You may have lost hope, but we’re here to hold onto hope for you until you can feel hope for yourself. Chronic addiction is often driven by complex trauma or profound experiences of loss. When you’re living with unresolved trauma, you can try all you want to change your behaviors or white-knuckle your way through life or overcome addiction with sheer willpower, and it isn’t going to work. But if you can treat the underlying trauma and truly heal those old, festering wounds, suddenly, change becomes possible. We use trauma-informed modalities such as EMDR to get to the root of your addiction and heal deep trauma and unresolved grief.
-
Often, especially in the early stages of addiction treatment, outpatient therapy—what we provide—isn’t enough. You may need daily group sessions, more structure, the safety of an inpatient facility, or medical stabilization. We can provide referrals for these needs, and help you connect with detox facilities, inpatient programs, intensive outpatient services, group therapy, and more. We will be here for you when you’re ready for the next step.

Addiction is complex, and it’s common for someone with addiction problems to also be dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or some other mental health struggle. If this is you, you’re not alone. There’s no such thing as effective addiction therapy that doesn’t also treat co-occurring mental health problems; we’ll make sure that you get the help you need to get your symptoms under control and learn healthier ways of coping. We’ll collaborate with you on deciding what to tackle first, to set you up for success.

We use many evidence-based modalities to treat addiction and co-occurring issues. These include mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (MB-CBT), motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, trauma-informed approaches like ART or EMDR, parts work, and more.
